  1. JEERS Regarding: City of Hurst Neighborhood Services - Code Enforcement

This statement is absolutely false: " when there is a code violation, we’ll work with you to help address it. We call it
our “ good neighbor” approach to code enforcement".

I was sent a Violation Notice Feb. 16, 2016 to paint my rental house by the date of 03/24/2016! Painting the exterior of a house is not a small expense. I was shocked & replied immediately that I would only be able to paint after the 1st of the year due to the expense. The Inspector informed me: "that is not good enough, had to be done a lot sooner".

I have been talking to the Inspector's supervisor, after getting nowhere with the Inspetor, continuously since April. I received a Violation Ticket 06.13.2016 while still talking with his supervisor.

Finally, I received a Summons of Court Appearance in the mail on 07.29 or 30 & opened on Sunday the 31st that I was to appear in court on 08.01 Monday at 9:00AM. This Court Summons has NO address & NO telephone # & I was going to be out of town that morning! That afternoon, I called the Inspector's supervisor who was on vacation so I placed a call to Executive Director of Economic Development & left him a message to please return my call.....I did not get a call back from that person!

After finally getting the telephone # for court from the Inspector's supervisor 08.02, who had been on vacation, I called the court & I have to appear in person at the court location (they did give me the address over the phone) set up another court date & post a $319 Bond for myself! Was also informed another ticket was issued on 08.01 which I still haven't received & I am writing this 08.07.

I have owned this house since the 70's & cannot believe I could be arrested & jailed plus having to post bond over the painting of a house that has a new garage door & front of the house is primarily brick & not in that bad of shape! And, I, along with my renter, have kept in touch with people at the City of Hurst continuously since Feb. of 2016.

If this is the "good neighbor" policy Code Enforcement states on their site, I do not see it that way. I clearly see this as harassment; I did not tell the City I would not paint the house but told them I would be able to paint after the 1st of the year & that was not agreeable to them!

Another document I find strange is the "City of Hurst Renewal Registration for the Rental Property" implemented a few years back, which has to be filled out YEARLY even though the same tenant has been there for years. I do not see why the City needs this information or, for that matter, seems none of their business..... Talk about a maze of rules & regulations for small business, it has also filtered down to residential home owners & rental property!
